COFFEE GROUNDS COMBUSTION

The spent coffee grounds we produce in large quantities as waste are not disposed of, but burnt in a specially designed boiler plant. This enables us to save more than 30% of the fuels we would otherwise require (fossil fuels or natural gas). The large quantities of steam that we require for "brewing coffee" means we are involved in the emissions trade, but as the coffee grounds are a sustainable raw material we are easily able to achieve the current savings targets. The fine dust that is generated during the burning of the coffee grounds is collected by an electric filter system. A special process eliminates nitric oxides.
